Piazza Navona has an oval shape and this takes us back to its origins: this space used to be an Olympic stadium, built by Emperor Domitian in 86 AD. It was known as Circulus Agonalis, which means "competition arena", and in the Middle Ages towers and homes were constructed on the seats of the stadium; later on, in the 15th century churches, hospitals and shelters replaced this medieval structures.

As a matter of fact, the "palazzo" where the Navona71 works today was built in 1608, and at first it was a dwelling for Spanish peregrines coming from their country to see the Pope. This historical house then turned into a private home -owned by the ancestors of Giovanni Mazzeo, the actual proprietor - and after a profound restoration, it was opened as a bed & breakfast in November 2007.

The inn features six guestrooms, four of which overlook Piazza Navona. There is also a living room area where you may relax after your tours around Rome, and breakfast is offered at a cafeteria close by, called La Dolce Vita. After this first meal, get lost in the so-called most beautiful square in the Eternal City, featuring the Four River Fountain, and the church of Sant Agnese.
