San Lorenzo Area has been founded around the beginning of 1900's. It was born as residential area to lodge workmen and railway station. Piedmontese and Lombard workers realized this part of Rome developing the typical roman camp. In 1942 during the second world war, San Lorenzo was bombed. |
It still has the signs of that destroying period (empty spaces, broken building façade, new building presenting different style from the original ones). Sabelli Building: Historical notices belonging on 1912, probably during this year was built the building, Neoclassical style the most notable work is represented by the embossed step. It has been built using lavic stone called "Nenfro" imported from Viterbo. Ancient Etruscans used that stone to erect their sarcophagus. |
Cappelari Building: It was built at the ending of 1600's and at the beginning o 1700's. It was erected to suit handcrafmen who were working along this street. The area where Capellari apartments are located is actually called Rione Regola. Many streets in this area take their names from the different handcraftmen who had shops here. |
Cappellari means people who make hats. Today many restaurants, pubs, shops, ancient restorer shops, are along these streets. Adjacent our building was born the famous poet Metastasio who lived during the XVIII century. Just around Campo de' Fiori are placed many historical monuments, the sacral zone in Largo Argentina, Palazzo della Cancelleria, Palazzo Farnese, Piazza Navona, the Monte Pietà Chapel, San Pietro in Vincoli and the Pantheon. |
