We reserved a taxi to go to the hotel, and the taxidriver was really kind and showed us some beautiful parts of the city! The best start of are perfect weekend in the City! ... Last year I already went to this hotel, so I know how it was, and I think it is even more beautiful than on the website. The staff is always so kind, a pleasure to go to this B&B ! ... The price was like we agreed, I think it is a good price for the stay, only the breakfast could be a little bit more. But, I would go back to this hotel the next time I will go to Roma. So, I hope the price is going to stay the same, because I think it is a good price for the room. ... Perfect location to visitate the city, if you want to get connected with the Roman people, because the staff is friendly. You are not a number, but persons !!! Very important for me. A place to go back to!

Very friendly and helpful staff but also non-intrusive. They offered to keep our baggage free of charge until the evening on the day of our departure and also arranged a taxi to the airport at a special reduced rate. ... I would highly recommend this establishment to a friend- a quiet clean comfortable charming B&B with lovely breakfasts, daily impeccable upkeep of room, friendly staff and in a fantastic central location-walking distance of everywhere!!

Transferred by El Covo to alternative accommodation nearby for first night. This was adequate but with much less character than El Covo which we enjoyed for the remaining nights. Staff were very helpful. ... Nothing to add ... Simple but characterful. Very well situated - great to see the Colesseum at the end of the street! Would certainly go back to same place again!

They were very nice and helpful, and got us a room as soon as they could. ... One thing that is not stated is that they now have satellite tv. ... The B&B was in a very good location to be able to walk to place. The rooms were nicely decorated, and the staff was always very friendly.

Very polite receptionist on our arrival, providing all the info for our stay, in a 10 minute talk... recommendations... how to get around in public transport to/from B&B... just the kind o info you need to start visting right away. ... We stayed at Marco room, which maybe was the less quality room, but still correct. Breakfast lacks some quality, specially that juice. ... Very well placed... take the 117 funny electrical minibus right in to the heart of Rome, or a pleasant walk to Fontana di Trevi in 10 minutes... Colosseum is at the end of a paralel street, at viewsight as on pictures. Very calm neighbourhood, not the center (but close) and not termini station area (which is quite further away from the main area)... Nice and recommendable.

On my voucher it stated a 'Quadruple Room Standard, Double Bed + 2 Single Beds'. we were given a quadruple room with a double bed and a double sofa type bed, however, it was quite comfortable and perfectly adequate for our stay. It just meant that I shared one double bed with my son and my wife shared the other with our daughter. ... The owner was more than helpful and spoke excellent English. We had a wonderful time in Rome and would certainly recommend Il Covo to future visitors. ... Basic accommodation but clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful in both Il Covo and the cafe where we had our breakfast.

The overall conclusion was very positive, with one exception. We did not always have much privacy because our room was next to a place where someone was doing the 'laundary' (ironing & washing machine) & window was opened whenever we returned from town. Breakfast in 'Bodega' was nice, but simple (only one croissant with juice & cup of coffee), although we don't want to complain about it. ... I suggest that you mention about breakfast - nice environment, but simple ... Good price/quality & I would recommend it to others, since it was clean.

Francesco, the hotel manager, took care of us right away, and allowed an early check in, which was very helpful to us. ... The property was nice but the room was not nearly as nice as the ones shown on the website. Also, we had no refrigerator. ... Again, Francesco accomodated our very early check-out needs and assisted in reconfirming our transporation arrangements. ... Great location, good choice if you want something safe, economical and no frills.

The receptionist was very helpful for giving advice on things we want to visit. ... For the price, we think that the accomodation should work properly: some lights did not work in the room, warm water on the lavabo was very difficult to obtain. The quality of the breakfast was rather poor: for the price we expected a buffet or at least more choices. ... The location of the hotel is perfect : from that point we can visit many things at foot.

Problems with taxi from airport ...in practice it wasn't there, it had gone to the wrong airport. I met the particular driver at the end of the time in Rome (actaully he drove me back to the airport .. the correct one this time) , he was very apologetic and as I speak a fair amount of Italian it was not a great problem in the end. ... I already knew of the restaurant having eaten there several times in the past. Room was large as was the bathroom and equiped as stated. Indeed much larger than many hotel rooms at several times the price. 'Quiet' is a relative term at any time in Italy, Overnight, no problem with noise for sleeping even with window open. However, morning traffic and the emptying of bins would even penetrate a sound proofed 'sound room'! Certainly quiet enough for me. ... The restaurant side of the business provides excellent quality which is what has drawn me back to the property over the last year or so on other visits to Roma Other bars, piazzas and restaurant locally are not overflowing with tourists, plenty of 'locals' which is not what you find in other parts of Roma which for me makes the whole visit more interesting. ... Good rooms and food for a reasonable price in an interesting area of Roma especially if you want to avoid hoards of tourists, yet with all the standard tourist sites not far away.

My flight from Bristol was cancelled, but we managed to catch another flight 5 hours later from Gatwick airport. We were unable to notify Il Covo of our late arrival, but they were still there to welcome us when we arrived. They also have a sign on the door saying where they can be contacted (500m down the road) if nobody is at reception. ... The property was centrally located, very clean, and was exactly what we were looking for. It was also so convenient to pop 500m down the road for breakfast. We were delighted with the property. The air conditioning was just perfect to get a good night's sleep, particularly with night temperatures of +22 degrees. ... Although we had to depart our room some 6 hours before departing Rome, our baggage was well looked after and the owner obtained the services of a most delightfull taxi driver who took us to the airport .... complete with a guided tour of the less well known parts of Rome (he first checked that we had plenty of time for our flight). ... A very honest description. ... A perfectly situated hotel to see the sights of Rome ... my first visit to the city but certainly not the last (it was fantastic).

Il Covo arranged for us to be met at the airport. We were too early for our room but able to leave our case. ... We were in Rome for a long week-end. Il Covo is a few minutes walk from the Colosseum, so ideal. Typical Italian accommodation in an apartment building. Air conditioning, clean, comfortable and ideal for our short holiday. Breakfast was at Il Covo a short walk away and you could eat other meals there with a 10% discount if you wished. The manager was excellent with his knowledge of things to see and do, transport etc. We would certainly stay there again. ... Il Covo arranged for a taxi for our departure to the airport. The taxi driver was like taking another tour, he gave a running commentary all the way - excellent! ... Good value, excellent location for main attractions. The manager spends time telling you local sites not to miss on short holidays and other areas to visit. ... You must visit Rome and Il Covo is in a good location. If you want a typical Italian place to 'rest your head' rather than a 'clinical' modern hotel - Il Covo is the place. Air conditioning, ensuite, clean and comfortable. Continental breakfast which is more than adequate, no waiting for tables. They speak English (and other languages). They organise pick up and drop off at airport. You may stay in accommodation that is a short distance from Il Covo, which we did, and this was excellent.

WE were really pleased about the facilities, the only details is that warm water is supplied by an electrical thermotank which is very small, so it not possible (or difficult at least) for 2 people to have a shower one after the other. It would be advisable that the staff makes this clear when checking in. The room was very neatly cleaned every day, and staff were always helpful. Really good choice to stay in the centre of Rome with a reasonable price ! ... -Very convenient for all main touristic sites...within walking distance ! -no elevator -small electrical thermotank that supplies the hot water -many restaurants in the neighbourhood -huge wardrobe ! -they provided a 'culla' for the baby at no extra price ... -absolutely worth trying (we are coming back when we go back to Rome, that is a fact !)

Only negative comment which I will be sending direct to Il Covo is as follows:
The hot water is extremely hot, the shower is very small and the water lever in the shower is very sensitive so when the lever is unexpectatly touched while having a shower it is easy to have too much hot water and burn yourself...this happened a number of times during our stay and my wife experienced a significant burn on one occasion. ... This is an inner city room in an appartment in a funky neighbourhood of Rome. There is significant street noise untill about 11:00pm. Lots of interesting local bars and tavernas close by that are geared to the local population ....not just to tourists. Close to Colliseum and walking distance to everything in downtown Rome.

Breakfast was nice, but could definately be bigger. ... The best bit about Il Covo is that its location is so central, but still you get the feeling of staying somewhere really local, with the narrow streets, bars and restaurants, you get a genuine feel to it.

It was clean and big enough and a daily cleaning. It was also quiet but we didn't have a good window with nice scenes. The bed was a bit too short (we are quite tall) and the lightning could have been better but it wasn't dark, either. Bathroom was nice. Breakfast was better than expected but quite short and late, 8.30-9.30 a.m. So if you wanted to go to sightseeing very early, the breakfast was too late. ... We booked a taxi to collect us from the airport, this ended up being 80 euros in total for a return trip which was a little dissapointing. However the driver was very informative and pleasant. ... The room was really noisey at night. As scooters were alwyays going by and it disturbed us quite a few times. Also the shower was tiny and at the time we arrived the boiler had not been turned on so we had to wait several hours for it to heat up. Also the double bed we expected was two singles pushed togther which was annoying. ... Noise from outside ... just what you need for a sights seeing holiday a base close to all the sights and a main metro station. Clean comfortable and inexpensive with many good restaurants nearby. But the rooms are noisy being right on the street and the breakfast is not great just very basic bread and coffee or tea.

Our first night's accommodation was not what we expected. However, the owner(?) Francesco took great trouble to move us to another room the next morning, with a complimentary late breakfast and plenty of very helpful information about Rome. ... When booking, it is essential to specify that you want a room from the website. The room we were moved to was beautiful and we had a lovely stay ... We were charged less for the first night ... Some of the rooms are not in old buildings, as stated, but in a not very nice apartment block. The room here itself was OK, but the setting and surrounds were definitely not what we expected. The rooms that appear on the website are really lovely, with fantastic atmosphere. ... Il Covo is great, but be specific about the room you want. The triple room we stayed in for 3 nights was wonderful and the area of Rome in which it is located is fabulous - 2 minutes to see the Colosseum, less than 10 minutes to walk there. Francesco went to a great deal of trouble to make us comfortable, and we appreciated this.

We were not advised we had to report to a restaurant first. Il covo sent a taxi to pick us up at the airport for a set price. Very helpful. ... Streets of Rome can be a bit noisy but that is not the fault of Il Covo. ... They arranged a taxi to the airport for a fixed rate, which was also very helpful. ... Small, cozy, cute.

There is no real receptionist. The 'Lobby' is the restaurant. They check you in at the back of the restraurant.
We arrived early in the morning and they let us place our luggage in the room, even though it had not been cleaned so that we could start seeing the sights. ... There were only a few employees and most of them did not speak english. ... Very clean. A little rough around the edges. We feel like we had a truly ROMAN EXPERIENCE!

I know some hotels require keeping your passport and Italian law requires it however, I didn't feel that the documents were locked up in a safe or drawer. That's my only issue. Other than that every was good. ... Il Covo B&B was clean & Spacious & quite. Francesco was very helpful when questions were asked, he was fluent in many languages. The showers were the best on out whole trip. I would recommend it to other people. If you are looking for a central area walking distance to the colleseum and metro this is the place. If you are not looking for night life this is the place. Freshly baked brioches (croissants) and juice & great coffee was provided every morning.

I think the web site listed the accomodation as in a quiet area, but it was very noisy with mopeds and cars going past all night. the breakfast on offer was poor, and there wasn't much hot water. ... In the historical part of the city but very close to all the major attractions and convenient for public transport. The rooms are basic but clean. in a noisy area. Breakfast was poor, and there wasn't much hot water. For the price though, it is well worth the money alone for the location.

Had a little difficulty finding the location. After you understood where the addresses are location on the building it went much smoother. Francesco met us at the reception and was very helpful. He let us relax as he filled us with info. on the city and sites. The rooms were ready pretty fast as we got there early in the day. ... The rooms were spacious and clean. Although, we had trouble with the A/C not working property in one of our rooms. Thankfully, it was cool in the evenings so we slept with the windows open. Downside was the street outside was frequently used by mopeds and cars all hours of the night. Narrow cobblestone street + windows open = very loud nights, but staying up late each night we were able to fall asleep fast and slept through most of the noise. Non-working A/C was almost a deal breaker. Told them several times, but not sure anything was done. If it hadn't been for the cool evenings we might have stayed somewhere else. ... Check out was easy. Francesco had everything waiting and ready for me upon check out. I think the higher rates were typical of the location and high travel time (summer). Although, with no A/C I wish he could have knocked some off the price. ... Breakfast is included, but is in a restaurant down the street. ... Nice place in the heart of the city. Easily accessible to metro, buses and most of the sites. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast at their restaurant is basic but very good. Overall, I'd recommend staying at Il Covo.

Taxi picked us up from airport and took us to Il Covo's restaurant (about 10pm). We had to wait in the street for about 10mins until someone arrived - the taxi driver could not wait. I suitcases were then taken to our accomodation by car - we followed on foot (about 200 yards).
... Owner was very helpful in providing information about tours. ... Taxi pickup was again from the restaurant. We had to pull three heavy suitcases across a busy cobbled-stone street. ... Owner speaks very good English and can provide a lot on information about getting around Rome. He provided us with a tour brochure which had a very useful map. We also picked up one of his business cards which included a detailed map showing roads surrounding the accomodation. That saved us almost every day! Location is within walking distance of Forum and other attractions. Accomodation is split between (at least) two areas. Breakfast is very basic. Our room key would not lock the door from inside, but owner exchanged it for a key that worked OK. ... Accomodation is clean and comfortable. Remote control air conditioning unit was excellent and lots of hot water for showers. Ideal if backpacking but inconvenient if you have a lot of luggage.

The host was very friendly and offered the map of Rome to us. Also gave us direction to get to places of interest and guide us on transportation. ... We stayed at the room on the street level. It was extrememly noisy. Motorbikes and cars noises throughout the night. There were only day curtain so during the night people on the street could look into the room. The TV had only one channel working so was not much use. Room was spacious and clean. But did not look as good as on the web. ... They arranged for taxi which arrive promptly and the taxi had a special arrangement with the hotel so we payed cheaper fare vs market. ... To caution visitors from taking the street level rooms. ... Fair. But make sure to request Not to stay at street level rooms.

we asked for a twin bed and we got a matrimonial ... The sofa in our room was dirty We had to go to a bar one blok away for breakfast, but they were only open at 8.30, so since we had to start early to visit all the splendors of Rome, we couldn't get breakfast, neither as we left for the airport. We had 1 breakfast and stayed 5 nights, we didn't get the 10% discount on the meals in that bar, as promised in the description. They were not friendly at the bar. ... if I pay for bed and breakfast, I expect to eat in the morning! They should call themselves Bed, instead of bed and breakfast. ... we slept very bad because of the constant very loud trafic in the narrow roads, especially vespa's. the room only had one window at the street-side, we had to let it open because it was very warm ... nice room, very loud, good beds, efficient staff, old house, dirty sofa, don't take breakfast if possible, just beds the taxi-service worked well

When we arrived there was a note on the door stating that we had to go down the street to the piazza but it was not clear wich way the piazza was. It was raining (hard) it was dark and we had to ask in a nearby cafe for help....this is not a good way to welcome guests. Also, we asked for one large and two single beds. We got two large beds. ... The fridge in our room did not work. We asked twice for someone to have a look at it but this did not happen. (I think there are just too many staff involoved in the process and messages do not get passed to the right people.) The hot water heater did not have enought hot water for four people to have a shower in the morning. The bead spread on one of the bed smelled a bit. ... Large room but be prepared to climb a LOT of stairs! Location is nice but the street is very lively…traffic, dogs barking etc. Not enough hot water for 4 people to have a quick shower in the morning. We were surprised to find that the room we stayed in (the Marco) was not in the Il Covo B&B but located in another hotel. For us this was not convenient since every time we needed something we had to go down the street to the Il Covo bar. The bar was often very busy and it was not always easy to get someone to talk to us. Staff are friendly but not always available. We asked twice for someone to look at the fridge in our room since it did not work. We were told twice that someone would come to help us but they never came. Breakfast (again down the street at the bar) was one croissant each, a glass of juice and something warm to drink. (Not enough to get you through the morning.) Fresh towels and bed linins each day but the bead spread on one of the beds smelled a bit. ... See #15

There was no reception as such, the address on the website is a restaurant and if no one is at the restaurant there are mobile phone numbers to call. Lucky for us when we arrived there was someone there. Also the rooms appear to be scattered throughout a number of buildings around the restaurant. I was expecting one building with a various rooms and a reception area ... The room when we arrived whilst it was clean it was not quiet or private as it was on street level and therefore we had to keep the windows closed for privacy and the windows were not double glazed. There was a bar or cafe close by which in the evenings was loud. The room was also beside the entry door so in the middle of the night you heard people coming and going. We asked for another room after the first night. Our second room whilst it was more private and bigger it looked a little tired! It needed some freshening up and there was no light in the sitting room only a lamp and the room did not have air-conditioning. However the bedroom was at the back away from the street so it was alot quieter than the first room ... In reference to accomodation we find that the Euro is very expensive for what you get! ... Breakfast was served in a cafe located down the street and around the corner not in Il Covo restaurant, and only for 1hr between 8am and 9am. For a B&B the breakfast was very basic. However on a positive note the staff were helpful and at most times very informative ... Good location but very basic, make sure to ask for a room not on street level and with air-conditioning if going in summer. Because there is no reception area or anyone permanently around it does not have that warm, friendly B&B feel. It is more like you are staying in someone's apartment without the kitchen. I don't think I would stay again.

Receptionist took off for about 10 minutes and left us waiting all by ourselves in an empty restaurant/hotel reception hall. Before talking about the room, he spent half an hour to provide us with a lot of interesting details on how to visit the city (location of important sites, tips, crucial bus lines etc.). This info was very convenient.
... The staff (which we only met during breakfast) did not speak/understand English and even their Italian appeared to be somewhat weak. They did what they had to do, without any compliments and much effort. Breakfast was very minimal. The room was clean and lovely, but rather noisy. It did appeared to have a heating system, so it was a bit chilly (but still ok). Great location, close to the historic and commercial center. ... Probably prices are based on rates of other accomodations in the city, but overall I feel that the room rate was somewhat out of balance/overrated. ... The rooms are distributed over 3 buildings which are not related to each other (it felt like 3 different appartment buildings). No real hotel reception desk and lobby are present. ... Great location and ideal starting point to visit the city, lovely accomodation, but somewhat expensive

Taxi took us to the B & B. Check in was at a nearby restaurant but instead of getting two double bedrooms that we requested we got one large room split into two areas with two double beds but no internal doors. The room was unfinished and not what we had expected. We did manage to change rooms the next day but feel that this should never have happened in the first place as my booking request was quite clear. ... Although clean, our room was small and the decoration made the room very dark. Bathroom was clean although towels were only changed once during our stay and the shower leaked. ... Several flights of steep stairs to the rooms which would not be suitable for the very young or old. ... Centrally located but I wouldn't recommend the accommodation.

Even though it was a B&B, I expected someone to be on duty when we arrived at 11:30 in the morning. We arrived by car and had to unload our bags very quickly as the street was very narrow and we were blocking traffic. With all the horn blowing and shouting it was chaotic to say the least. We hurridly left my wife and daughter-inlaw to check in while my son and I returned the rental car. Little did we know that the entry to Il Covo was locked and God knows how many bags piled up on the narrow sidewalk. The was a note on the dore saying that we should go to the restaurant down the street. My wife, after going to the first 2 restaurants she came to with no sucess finally found the right place which was 2 blocks away. This was quite an experience.
The next problem was that our 3 rooms were in 3 separate buildings, one of them 3 blocks away. One of the rooms for my gramdchildren as statd in my reservation. This made my daughter-in-law very nervous, especially since there was only one set of keys to each room. There were 2 locked doors that you had to go through to get to the room which meant that we could not communicate with each other as there were no telephones. As a result we spent many hours waiting for each other over the weekend.
Despite all this the people were very nice and cooperative even though they didn't have 2 or 3 rooms in the same building. The restaurant where they served breakfast was pleasant and the owners friendly. We ended up using it as a meeting up place. The roome were clean and adequate for a B&B. The facilities were fine for some young people but were definitely now good for a family.
It was an experience that we can laugh about now but there were some very anxious moments at the time. ... See notes above.
It was convenient to the historic sites and the subway. ... With a lot of laughs.

The staff of Il Covo was wonderful and very helpful. I would consider staying at Il Covo again.

Typically, we saw the staff each morning at breakfast. Each morning, after breakfast, the very helpful staff answered many questions we had about any of the tourist attractions in and near Roma. ... There is no reception as such, and we were lucky to find someone in the 'bar' where keys are handed out. This bar is closed except for breakfast time.
Otherwise, a note on the bar door would direct you to some other 'bar' to get someone.
This is all quite confusing! ... Breakfast was very poor and the place (bar??)where breakfast was served has room for improvement.
Explanations of what to do in the city and how to get to different places provided by the person who handed the key out at 'reception' were excepcional. Very helpful and knowledgeable ... We had a problem with the electrics in the room allocated and throughout the night there was no electricity at all (no TV, shower nor heating).
It was very late (23.00 h). The bar where breakfast is served was closed and we were unable to find the second bar we were instructed to go to in order to find someone.
We did not consider appropriate to call the contact number provided at that time of the night so we waited till the morning to let them know.
They were helpful in providing a second room so we could shower, etc. and allowed us to use it for as long as we needed prior to our departure; so they made up for the inconvenience. ... Very basic place with excellent location.

Instead, we got transportation to many sites (ex. catacombs outside Rome) and only paid a minimal amount for the tour of the site. (Much more economical and an option for some). ... The impression I got on line was a better room. Walking up the stairs to the first floor (where we stayed), there was a strong musty chlorine smell. We were next to the laundry area and our only window opened up to the ladies washing and ironing (I mean right there-we could touch the people, hear them talk..). There was little ventilation so our room was very warm (no air conditioning or fans). Room was clean and fairly spacious which is why I rated #8 fairly good and not poor. When we got to the hotel for a quick afternoon or evening rest, we would have liked to watch t.v but only 3 channels worked and very little was on. I haven't been to Rome for 19 years so I really can't compare it to other accomodations but for $175 dollars Canadian, I really expected better. Morning juice, coffee and fresh rolls were very good. We did like the proximity to the Collosseum, Forum, shopping, and bus routes. This was very helpful. ... Checking out was very easy and they were very accomodating. We actually paid the afternoon before as we left at 4:00 in the morning and there wouldn't have been anyone there.
We are comparing our experience to value for our money experienced in Canada. If in Rome again, I probably would try a different facility. ... Positive-the proximity to sites and easy walking to shopping, ancient ruins, and bus routes. Positive - the proximity to grocery stores was great so we could buy our water and put it in the fridge as well as fresh fruits, buns, coldcuts for our full day out.
I would have liked to have known the laundry area was RIGHT outside our room and that there wasn't air conditioning. That or fans are pretty standard. ... Great proximity to sites and bus routes. 15 minute walk to Colosseum,& Forum. Comfortable beds but warm and dimly lit room with laudry area right outside our window.
