A fantastic venue. Meals and staff most helpful and friendly at all times. Room probably the nicest we have ever stayed in. And my wife was most surprised to learn that the Hotel had taken the trouble to provide us with champagne to celebrate her birthday on Saturday 1st March - I forgot but they got me out of jail - a most thoughtful gesture. All in all a most pleasant stay and we shall most certainly return.

We had a wonderful time in Rome and the hotel added to this experience, we will stay here again and would recommend it as it was in a quiet area but within easy commuting to the centre of Rome. ... We had a late flight booked and as we had to be out of the hotel room for 12 noon the hotel allowed us to store our bags until the taxi collected us at 6pm (which they booked for us) We also were allowed to freshen up in a bathroom suite they have avaliable for guests who have checked out. ... This hotel is a little gem in a beautiful quiet area of Rome. You can eat a fantastic breakfast in the delightful garden. Our room was very elegant and the staff couldn't have been more helpful, booking trips, restaurants and taxis for us. We will return.

It was a much longer walk from the train station than anticipated. We called and asked if we should take a cab from the train station, and the person said 'no, it is short enough distance to walk.' However, carrying 4 pieces of luggage almost a mile (mostly up hill) left us tired and sweaty.
Besides that, all went well. ... I was impressed with the in-room ammendities. ... Went smoothly. ... In-room internet access. (that was a good feature) ... Cozy, warm and inviting with nice rooms in a great neighborhood. Staff was also exceptional. Overall a super experience, and I would use it again when in Rome.

We were extremely pleased with Hotel San Anselmo and will always be our first choice when visiting Rome. ... A small, but beautiful and charming hotel situated in a quiet and leafy area of Rome. Although not central it is within easy walking distance of many well known sites (Circus Maximus, Bocca della Verita, The Palatine etc).

We arrived early and were able to have a coffee in the lounge while we waited. The room was ready at 12pm, as stated and a very kind chap took our bags and showed us to our room. ... The hotel is set in a lovely location and is beautiful inside and out. We were delighted with our room (like a stage set), which was just as we'd seen on the website. Everything seemed to be newly decorated and very clean. ... We would have preferred to have tea/coffee making facilities in our room. If we wanted a hot drink, we had to go to the bar and after a long day of walking, we were too tired to do this and so went without.
The hotel is quite a distance from most of the sights and so we found that walking back to get changed for evening dinner and then going out again was quite challenging (had we known that taxis were quite cheap, we might have done this, but my guide book had said to avoid taxis as they tend to overcharge - this was totally true!)). On the Saturday/Sunday(?), we were hoping to eat at the hotel's restaurant as we were tired and wanted to spend more time in our lovely room, but unfortunately, dinner wasn't being served that evening so we had to go back out to find somewhere to eat. The receptionist had kindly provided us with a map of local restaurants but these were all fully booked by local clients so we ended up walking quite a distance until we found somewhere.
Therefore, my only negative comment about the hotel would be the lack of tea/coffee making facilities and restaurant service on the Saturday/Sunday(?) evening. ... We stayed in the 'Mille Bacci' Room and felt like a King and Queen for the weekend! We were thrilled with it - it was beautifully decorated, as was the rest of the hotel.
Set in a quiet and safe-feeling location (very important to us as new travellers!), Hotel San Anselmo is a beautiful, clean and efficiently run hotel that you can really look forward to returning to at the end of a busy day. In fact, the hotel was so nice that it was a shame to have to leave it to visit the sights!
Althought situated in a residential location on the Avantine hill, it is possible to walk to all the main sights from Hotel San Anselmo. For those who don't want to do too much walking, it's very easy to order a taxi at reception (eg. approx. 7 euros to the Station Termini) or if visiting the sights, to take a ride on one of the Hop on Hop off Bus Tours which you can pick up from nearby Circus Maximus.

On the second stay we were provided with a room with a terrace which was unexpected but at the same agreed price. We were delighted!
The breakfast was always wonderful. ... The taxi service used byy the hotel to take us to the airport was excellent and cheaper than the one we had heard abaout. ... The location of the hotel on the Aventine Hill, close to the very beautiful Church Sabina (and 2 other old churches)and 2 minutes from 'the keyhole' and next to the Monastery where they sell specialty items made by local monks, etc. These were very nice surprises for us. If not noted on the web-site, the staff should make sure that guests are aware of these features - it's even better when it's a surprise. ... An oasis of calm in the middle of an extrmely vibrant, busy, wonderful city

The San Anselmo was a lovely hotel and the whole booking experience could not have been easier. ... We stayed two different times, two different rooms, two of the three hotels. The rooms were very comfortable, lovely views. ... It is hard to appreciate until you are there what a lovely, quiet neighborhood it is - and the gardens of the hotels were especially nice. The help was always very graciou. ... If you want a gracious hotel in a quiet neighborhood where you can really relax, Hotel San Anselmo is a wonderful place to be. There are pretty, peaceful walks nearby, the help is all gracious, the gardens lovely, breakfast plentiful.

Very pleasantly surprised by the surroundings- very treey and spacious streets. Reception very friendly and efficient. ... Fantastic room which we were blown away by. Very spacious and large with separate bathroom and balcony which was also very roomy with which we often enjoyed a glass of wine. The room was very clean and tidy with beautiful fittings, drapes etc. We would definitely return here and would strongly recommend it. ... Efficient with no added extras or surprises. ... That if you know about the rooms with balconies you should book them. I don't think this was stated in the website. They are a little extra but well worth it. ... Unbelievable. Very plush, comfortable and a real treat!! Total luxury in such an amazing city. Walking distance to a lot of great sites. Very close to great restaurants. Lovely residential area of Rome. A fantastic retreat.

This was my third stay at the Sant'Anselmo Hotel and it was just as wonderful as the first two. Clean, spacious rooms, friendly and very helpful staff, lovely neighborhood in a quiet part of Rome. The value for money is unbeatable. I hope this will not be my last time there. ... I had stayed at the Sant'Anselmo Hotel twice before, both in hot summer. Being in the garden, in the residential area, and breakfast among the orange trees was just wonderful. Clean, spacious rooms, friendly and very helpful staff, lovely neighborhood in a quiet part of Rome. The value for money is unbeatable. I hope this will not be my last time there. That is what I told my friends to convince them that the Sant'Anselmo should be our hotel in Rome. They were pleased also.

Website was brilliant with much more info about the hotels than any other site I had tried. There were also more photos of the hotel than on the hotel's own website. As I was booking for a party of 16 people, all arriving on different dates and with different requirements, the ability to create a party and book for each individual pair within the party was inspired! It also allowed me to give each member their own booking form and to take responsibility for themselves. The hotel also offered us a fantastic discount for our group ( about 30% off the rack rate). And lastly, the hotel! Everything the website offered and more. We had a fabulous time and every single one of us said we would have no hesitation in using your website again, or the Hotel San Anselmo. ... Just a note to say I am Julia Hughes and I booked the party, yet your email was addressed to Susan Tongue who was a member of my party - but only a very minor point! ... Truthfully can't remember what this was! ... Truthfully can't remember what this was! ... Slick, easy to use and excellent for arranging a group visit. ... We were all expected and the hotel staff were polite and welcoming ... Brilliant! ... Slick and easy. The hotel are very well organised and even obtained taxi transfers for us at a very preferential rate ... It a pretty comprehensive description and describes the hotel very well ... For all the reasons stated above. Incidentally, if you are going to publish my review, please quote my correct name - Julia and not the one to whom you addressed this mail, who was a member of my party. ... Without any hesitation

We had some trouble finding the place, partly because there are many one-way streets in the area, and I suggest that the map/direction advice could be improved. First we found the sister hotel nearby, but from then everything was fine and the porter from Anselmo walked down and showed us the way. Very good and near parking facilities! ... It was our first time at the hotel Anselmo, and we were very happy with our stay. We would like to come back to this excellent and charming hotel. The hotel staff were very helpful. It is actually walking distance to Pz. Venezia, and we suggest that a better handout map is given out, indicating the best walking directions. However, the booklet with maps we found in the room were very helpful. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to our friends. ... I suggest you include a brief description or mention of the walking distances to Pz. Venezia, Colloseum. We had the impression that the city center was further away, but fortunately we found out while walking around in the area. ... An excellent and charming hotel, with all the facilities you need and with very helpful and pleasant staff. Within walking distance to Pz. Venezia (20 minutes?).

A lovely hotel-- quintessentially Roman in feel with beautiful rooms and an awesome body shower/jacuzzi in the bathroom. I loved the green shutters on the windows, the courtyard with the perfect orange trees. ... Beautiful Upscale Hotel in a converted Roman Villa-- Perfect in every way. The area is a bit out of the way for some tourist spots-- but it is central to all and a short walk to metro/buses which take you everywhere.(And cabs are readily available) Plus, if you walk around the largely residential neighborhood, you feel like a real Roman!

Very nice hotel staff - extremely accomodating and helpful. Lovely breakfast. Rooms were airy and clean. Clean bathrooms with lots of hot water and water pressure. Close to Rome Center and within a brief Metro ride to the Vatican. We had a lovely stay. There was a bit of street noise on Sunday night, but the rest of the week was quite peaceful. ... I have no other experiences with other hotels in Rome, but I would say that the accomodations were fine. A bit funky in that the electrical outlets were hanging off the wall in the main room and there was pealing plaster in several places, but that didn't bother us.

Our arrival at the actual hotel was superb, thestaff at the hotel were exceptional and throughout our stay were polite, friendly and extremely helpful. Our journey to the hotel was not a s good because we were not clear on exactly where it was and could not tell how far out of the centre of Rome it was and in what direction so the how to get there section should be clearer and instructions on how to use the underground system to get there included. ... Luckily we stayed in a new part of the hotel that was not advertised and it had air con, brand new facilities etc, had we not stayed there I am not so sure we would have been as happy. ... The old part of the hotel is not great but the new building is beautiful and of a much higher standard, I suggest that they are brought in line with eachother as the old building seemed shabby in comparison. ...
