The Niobide is represented as a wounded young woman falling on her knees, while trying to pull out an arrow from her shoulder, which causes the fall of her cloak and shows the beauty of her naked body. According to the legend the young woman was wounded by Apollo and Artemide during the slaughter of the Niobe sons. The statue is now at the Roman national museum, in the Baths of Diocleziano. |
