Smallish rooms, but the cleanest rooms I have been in ANYWHERE! My mom dropped something under her bed and without hesitation I went right after it. I stayed in 4 hotels in Italy for my trip and Smeraldo was, by far, my favorite! ... Yes, that although it is near the Campo dei Fiori it is pretty quiet. ... Cute, small, clean, great location! The most comfortable European style hotel I have ever stayed in. Near lots of shops, restaurants, although a bit far from Rome's antiquated metro.

very clean rooms(we were given the special needs room on the ground floor, this had a very roomy modern bathroom, though neither of us is disabled) The continental breakfast was more than adiquate, (the custard filled croissants, were scrummy) The roof terrace was like anoasis in the middle of the bustling city, with a bottle of wine & a good book, OUTSTANDING) The hotel is so close to everything, with a brisk walk one can view all the major sites. We will have no hesitation in returning to Hotel Smeraldo or recommending it to friends & family. If your on a budget it is perfect.

EVEN TRANSFERED OUR BAGE TO OUR ROOM FOR US, VERY HELPFULL. ... WE WOULD STAY HERE AGAIN! ... DOES NOT SERVE DINNER BUT EXCELENT PLACE ACROSS THE STREET. ... WE WILL STAY THERE AGAIN. GOOD CENTRAL LOCATION.

Upon arrival just before noon, the check in clerk was prepared for our arrival with assigned rooms which were ready, not even requiring to see the voucher. Maps for tourists are always available. We used the rooftop terrace to consume our store bought beer while planning day to day activities.
Breakfast at hotel which was included in our package is very clean, brightly lighted room with the same daily selection of bread, yougurt, cheese, coffe and juices eaten on tables with clean white table cloths.
The rooms are clean, altough not as spacious as US hotel rooms are newly furnished with tiled bathrooms, new windows and maid service was reliable to expect beds to be made up and rooms cleaned daily.
The location of the hotel is best being adjacent to Campo di Fiori, with plenty of shopping for clothes, jewelry, bakeries along the streets. Campo di Fiori is a very active plaza with fruit & vegetable sellers in the morning and surrounded by restaurants and bars that locals and tourists gather in the evenings. The hotel is within walking distance to all the major tourist spots in Rome.
The alley ways around Campo di Fiori is surprising with many small shops for clothing, art, books, furniture that allows a glimpse of current Roma resident life styles.
... The location is better than described on the website and one cannot discern its strategic location based on the web map. It is closer to all major tour spots and very practical to walk to them than by public transport. ... It was quick and the reliable for taxi service to the airport for a 4 am pickup. ... Probably hard to find on your own, better to arrive in a cab or van service. ... Very good location as a walking tourist to visit major sites, shops and restaurants/bars, bakeries, grocery stores around the hotel. Campo di Fiori is a very active plaza with 5 minite walk, good night life. Very clean hotel, good breakfast service.

Got sorted very quickly. ... Some staff a bit grumpy and unhelpful at times especially asking for our stuff out of the safe and for the last few days we just kept our stuff in our room. ... We got our taxi phoned for us straight away and it arrived within 5 minutes which was great. ... Staff spoke good english but some staff were not very friendly or very keen to help. It was always a bit of an ordeal getting our stuff from the safe. But i do think this was just the italian way of doing things. The hotel was in a great position to visit all the major tourist attractions in rome by foot. And the streets around the hotel were very clean and safe at all times of the day and night. I would definitley recommend Smeraldo to anyone visting rome for a short stay.

The hotel might be hard to find on your own. We had the hotel send a car to the airport for us and I find this is the best way to assure getting a driver who knows where they're going. ... The rooms were clean,a little small but the beds were good. Our triple had a lovely bath. I would have liked a safe and a small fridge in the room. ... There is a nice coffee shop and a great restauraunt out the front door a few steps across the alley.

The receptionist was helpful with information about catching buses around Rome. ... The receptionist was helpful in arranging a taxi back to the airport for us. ... It would be nice if the internet was wireless so that it could be used in your room. ... Modern, clean, in good decorative order. Ideal location for sight seeing. Breakfast was reasonable, but no croissants. Good value for money - I would definitely go back.

Room was uncomfortably small for two people. We were barely able to move around. The receptionist didn't seem interested in talking or helping us.

The front desk staff were not very helpful or friendly. They were not prepared to help with sightseeing or transport questions. Our room was so small we couldn't fit our suitcases anywhere to keep them open. The room was dark and we couldn't adjust the air conditioning. It had to be controlled by front office either turning it on or off - no in between. Position of hotel great! ... How small the rooms are. We also got a lot of outside noise even through the thick windows. ... If you're looking for a central position it's good and it was clean but that's about all it has to offer.

We took a taxi from the train station which dropped us off a block from the hotel and overcharged us. It would have been helpful to have more detailed instructions. ... We were two couples in adjacent rooms. Both bathrooms had a very unpleasant, noticeable odor.
We were pleasantly surprised to have an excellent daily breakfast. ... Great location within walking distance to many of Rome's attractions.
