This area, mainly characterised by the Laterano Palace and the Basilica of S. Giovanni in Laterano, is a network of residential streets and sometimes it is the venue for cultural events, such as music concerts. During the Middle ages the Laterano Palace was the residence of the popes. The name "Laterano" is taken from the Laterani Family who was the owner of a wealthy property in this area. In the district there many historical sites such as: the beautiful circular temple of the Minerva Medica; the holy steps of Santa Sanctorum (Holy Holies); the amphitheatre Castrense; the Porta Maggiore and the imponent Church of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme. The Hotel offers to our guest to book special Guide/walking Tours for the major monuments of Rome, or suggest the best way to visit the Eternal Rome. Beyond the most important archaeological site of Rome, from Hotel Lodi it's easy to reach the Famous Catacombs and Cecilia Metella's Tomb. Facing the Old Appian Way (Via Appia Antica) from Porta S. Sebastiano, the Catacombs of St. Callisto are near the small church "Quo Vadis?" on one side the Basilica of St. Sebastian on the other. From San Giovanni in Laterano bus 218 will takes you direct to the stop of Fosse Ardeatine , the entrance of the Catacombs is right opposite.
- Via Sannio Flea Market:
This outdoor market used to be the best place in Rome to find funky used clothes. It is not as huge now, but the stands still sell very inexpensive clothing, jewelry, accessories and bags from around the world. The prices and the originality of the items make this a fun place for kids to pick out a souvenir they will REALLY enjoy. To get there, take the subway or bus to Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano (the Romans just call it "San Giovanni"). You will see one of the best stretches of the ancient Roman wall here: Via Sannio is right beside the wall near the church (which is the Pope's parish church, by the way!). In the surroundings there are a car park, restaurants, pizzerie and entertainment venues.
