The bar of the Hotel d'Inghilterra: These are among the many stories told by the hotel's long-serving porter Giuseppe Iaquinto, who loving preserves a drawing made by Alexander Calder on impulse during an evening spent at the Bond bar. Not the anonymous bar of any hotel but a warm and friendly English-style bar frequented by the Roman aristocracy and figures from the worlds of show business and fashion, where even a simple cup of coffee is a work of art. The coveted title of Best Café in Rome was in fact awarded in 2002 to the bar of the Hotel d'Inghilterra, which is also ranked among the 13 best bars in Italy by the Gambero Rosso Association. Peter Reynolds officiates behind the counter. |
His martinis are perfect and ever popular, the Kyr Royal faultless, and the Irish coffee a delight not to be missed. There is also an interesting and international list of wines available by the glass. The non-alcoholic drinks available include Apple Tree (apple juice, lemon and ginger ale) and the cocktails a mix of vodka and sparkling rosé prosecco wine named Café Romano after the hotel's latest venture, a very special restaurant that opened to the public on Via Borgognona in 2001. |

Period prints and 19th-century oil paintings give way here to contemporary works by young artists, including two wooden sculptures by Roberto Almagno, splendid ceramics by Giacinto Cerone, and paintings by Franco Ruaro. The background music features cool jazz, lounge, and the legendary Buenavista Social Club. |
The Chef is Rodolfo Chieroni, and management is in the hands of Aurelio Ottavio De Luca, who makes sure that everything is perfect, that the silverware, glasses and bone china are all gleaming, and that the staff are always efficient, polite and helpful. The Café Romano is a special vantage point for habitués to experience the chic atmosphere of Via Borgognona, described by the Los Angeles Times as Rome's fashion street par excellence.
