I loved the hotel, it was beautiful. We stayed there when we got married in Rome. They gave us the best room at the top of the hotel, it was so romantic. We had an entire terrace more or less to ourselves with beautiful views. I have never met such warm and helpful hotel staff, they couldn't do enough for us, especially Justin. My family and friends were staying there also and they were very impressed. I would definetly go back and stay there again. I have very fond memories of the place.
Thanks for everything hotel Aventino,

We stayed at Aventino for 3 days after 3 hectic weeks of touring Tuscany and Umbria. We appreciated the quiet surroundings and the 'home-like' feel of the hotel. The staff were polite, friendly and helpful, and our room was very comfortable.

The location was very handy to central Rome via the Metro and a pleasant walk from Circo Maximus and the Coloseum. Our only inconvenience was having to go to the Villa San Pio for a drink, but a 2 minute walk was not really a problem.

1. We were met at airport by a car and driver booked throught Hotel Aventino. He was told to take us to Hotel S. Pio for check in. We were not aware of this procedure, so we were a bit confused, but it all worked out very well. We did check in at S. Pio, then were portered up the block by a wonderful staff member to our room. He showed us all the bells and whistles and we were 'home' for our stay in Roma.
2. We were greeted at S. Pio by the staff member and taken into reception for check in.
3. Receptionist was very nice, helpful and so truly 'old' Italian. A very great start. 4. Accomodations were slightly better than expected as I had requested a balcony if possible and was told none were available. Our corner room had a darling Juliette balcony.
...
6. The staff was fantastic with 1 important exception which I will write to the owner about. Everyone (except the 1 serious exception) treated us w/utmost kindness, friendliness, pleasantness, professionalism and went out of there way to accomodate and/or assist us. (Almost as good as cruise staff).
7. Yes, all services and facilities were readily available. In addition, there was also our favorite restaurant at S. Pio which is not listed on the site.
8. Drain stoppers were dirty and hairy which I requested be cleaned and they were. Jacuzzi was GREAT. Requests for extra towels, etc. graciously met and continued automatically during our stay. They even provided a pillowcase for my own pillow. Extra blankets and pillows readily available in the room.
8a. Room just a little small,(but that's Europe). Nicely decorated for the size of the room and the style of the villa. Not overdecorated or pretentious. Bathrooms beautiful, clean (except for aforementioned drain stoppers), good design w/lots for toiletry storage space for 2 single women and we loved the heated towel bars and the Jacuzzi. Surprized that no dresser was available but we adjusted and made do w/our desk and nice bedside tables which had a drawer and 2 large shelves. Loved our mini-frig. Clothes hangers were just useless, kept falling off bar. They need to be replaced w/better product. Light in the armoire/closet a heaven sent. In-room internet useless. A change or system update is definately needed. However, I did not expect any type of internet, just a modem connection for my own system, so it was a pleasant surprize to have it at all until we figured out we couldn't use it. It would have been wonderful to have if we could have used it. An unexpected and expensive gesture from the owners.
The bathrooms were exactly as pictured, room too. Beautiful linens, nice headboard treatment, GOOD mattresses, our room and all of the public rooms were very clean and nicely decorated in a style that I particularly like. We often felt that we were the only guests at the Aventino, so a wonderful sense of privacy and 'ownership' prevailed. (Of course, the place was practically full).
9. What exceeded our expectations was the staff at Hotel Aventino. They made our stay memorable. Also, the Maitre d'Hotel at the S. Pio Restaurant, the restaurant itself (which I had heard about) and our evening of Jazz. We came away with a very warm and almost proprietary feeling about the property and as well as hoping to stay there again, I will recommend Aventino to all.

...
11. Bill clearly and consisely laid out and ready for us at an early morning checkout (we had prenotified of our early departure). No problems.
12. There was no discrepancy between our voucher costs and our bill as I had previously brought a discrepancy to their attention at the time of booking.
13. For the type of accommodations, service, neighborhood, etc. etc. that we received this was most excellent value for our money. We also received the winter 'special' of 7th night free, so even further value.

These properties: Aventino, S. Pio and San Anselmo are a haven in the midst of a large city. Actually very good bus transportation to and from (once you find out about Bus 175). Quiet, affluent residential neighborhood dotted w/historic churches and beautiful gardens w/vistas of Rome. What a great neighborhood. I want to live there or at the very least return for another visit. Felt totally safe at night as single woman at night.
...
15. Mention should be made of the lovely and reasonably priced restaurant at S. Pio, as it is a REAL PLUS to know that you can walk just 1 little block to a marvellous dinner, and not have to slog down the hill and back up from Testaccio or Aventino on weary body and tired feet after a long day of sightseeing. I was concerned about this particular issue, but had read on the net that there was a small restaurant at S. Pio. Certainly very very glad it was and that it was open, and so good and well priced, or we would have had several cold dinners in our room, rather than the wonderful ones that we did have at the garden restaurant.
15a. There is an elderly night clerk at S.Pio, (not Luigi) who smokes behind the desk. Yuck. Not a nice smell to be greeted by and I'm a smoker.
...
16. This is a small, charming traditional gated Roman villa located in an affluent neighborhood on the historic Aventino Hill, that has been converted into a intimate and lovely villa-hotel. A very comfortable, casual and unassuming property without the feel of a hotel; very nicely and comfortably decorated and SUPERBLY staffed. A diverse blend of clients, with a good mix of Italians, business people, international UN professionals and international tourists between Hotel Aventino and Hotel S. Pio. (San Anselmo is currently undergoing rennovation).

The Aventino is nicely hardscaped w/a beautiful gray-black cobblestone drive and pathways thru a small landscaped garden. There is a lovely small garden terrace off the breakfast room with tables and umbrellas and two roof-top terraces for warm weather. A refuge from the 'big' city; located in a very quiet, safe and peaceful neighborhood.
A great find, and affordable.

If you are new to Rome finding the Aventino Hotel might be not easy .From the outside there is very little to show that this one is an hotel and the faded golden little sign outside the main gate does not help expecially if you arrive in the dark. The building blends so well with the surrounding ones that you might think you are in someone else home, and that's the beauty of the whole experience! It feels like being a guest in some old colonial home which i can only immagine it to be even better in summer time with the gardens in full blum.Giustino the receptionist was an absolute delight in welcoming us. Initially we were not happy with the room,we thought it was too small, although it had a lovely balcony as requested. He personally showed us every other available room in the hotel explaining pro and cons and took us to the sister hotel near by ,doing exactly the same without a fuss or a puff and with the upmost courtesy and politeness. After seeing the rest we soon realised we had the best room in the Hotel .
...
I can only describe the hotel as a little gem in one of the most tranquil and delightful setting in Rome as the Aventino hill is.Our room had a lovely balcony and a very large and comfortable double bed.The bath had a jacuzzi and a very powerful shower. The only negative note was the size of the only wardrobe in the rooms which is quite small and not big enough for 2 people staying for a week or longer, as there is not other storage in any shape or form in the room beside the floor and there is not much of it as the rooms tend to be on the small side but don't let that spoil your stay as the peace and quite of the location and the professionality of the staff will compensate for the inconvenience. On the other end there is so much to see in Rome that you will hardly spend any time in the room.Having my own transport was an advantage as the long walk uphill at the end of the day from the metro station could be a bit of a burden for some.
...
Wardrobes are very small, not enough for heavy travellers or a couple and should be mentioned as the lack of any shelving in the bathroom for the bare essential
...
