Nearby Attractions Via Aurelia Antica is one of the ancient consular roads which radiate out from Rome in all directions and from here it is possible to visit many tourist attractions. In a few minutes walk from our hotel it is possible to reach Villa Doria Pamphili, the largest park of Rome which competes with Villa Borghese for the number of citizens seeking relax on sunny days. Villa Doria Pamphili is a real beauty with its numerous historical buildings such as "Palazzo delle Statue", a Baroque masterpiece richly decorated. The entrance is free. |
Continuing on Via Aurelia Antica you will find "Porta San Pancrazio" which owes its name to the neighbouring basilica. Actually the ancient basilica of the 5th Century and the neighbouring catacombs of the 3rd Century AD are under restoration. Going down Porta San Pancrazio you can reach Piazzale Giuseppe Garibaldi with the monument dedicated to the Italian National Hero Giuseppe Garibaldi. This Equestrian Monument, was erected in 1895 in the middle of Passeggiata Gianicolense, in the memory of the events that happened on the Gianicolo in 1849, when French troupes attacked the city. Around the pedestal there are four representations which illustrate each scenes of the battle. The view from the Gianicolo Hill is definitely one of the most rewarding of the city. Close to Gianicolo, going into Trastevere area, you can visit the "Orto Botanico". These gardens were part of the Corsini Palace but since 1883 they are the property of the University of Rome, and they host more than 7000 vegetal species and, in the artificial lake, different aquatic species.
Rome lists over 300 monuments, 250 churches, and more than 100 museums, and this is only a small sample.
