| Trastevere is a very lively district that marries together the attraction of the wonderful medieval basilicas and the alleys with the city's most intense nightlife. Here you will find excellent restaurants, fine pizza houses and many entertaining pubs where to relax after a day on tour. Trastevere is bordered by the Tiber river and concentrates many of the most ancient bridges that link it to the rest of the historical center. Very close to the apartment there is Fabricius bridge that connects the Lungotevere to the Tiber Island and that was built in the 62 a.C., that makes it Rome's most ancient bridge that survived intact and with no restoration. From the two bridges of the Island you can enjoy an unique and magnificent view. The Island also hosts the most ancient hospital of the city and the beautiful church of S. Bartolomeo of the 10th century. From Trastevere, crossing the river, you can walk to all the most attractive spots in the city. Within less than a ten minutes walk you will reach the Palatine Hill, that it hosts the vestiges of the ancient Rome imperial mansions, the Coliseum and the Roman Forum. An equally short walk will lead you to the Pantheon, Navona Square and Campo dei Fiori. A few more minutes and you will enjoy the splendid sight of the Spanish Steps and the charming streets for posh shopping that stem from its bottom (Via Condotti, Via Frattina, Via. Margutta, etc.), while, after climbing the famous steps you will relax under the pine trees of Villa Borghese. The Vatican City (Saint Peter) borders on Trastevere, and thus after an enthralling visit to the Basilica and to the Vatican Museums, you will be able to walk back home strolling through its quaint alleys. About fifty yardes away from the apartment do not miss to visit the beautiful Basilica of Santa Cecilia, reknown also for its famous Cavallini frescos. Through Via della Lungaretta and crossing Viale Trastevere you will reach Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere where you can admire the breath taking mosaics on the facade of the homonimous Basilica. Close by Piazza Santa Maria you will find Il Museo di Roma and the Botanical Garden. Next door to the apartment there is one of the best restaurants in the city "Lo Spirito di Vino". A few steps away you will find "Le mani in pasta" a very good seafood restaurant. The characteristic and well known Meo Patacca restaurant is also close by. Very close to the apartment there is a grocery shop and bakery that is open also on sunday morning. The open air market place and many supermarkets are just a few minutes walk away. In the neigborhood there are many theaters and cinemas, coffe shops and pubs. |
