We would certainly stay at Antica Locanda again. Our stay was comfortable and they were so friendly and helpful. I can't wait to return.
...
So helpful again. They organised a car for us to the airport and the driver was wonderful, he give us abit of a commentary as we drove along.
...
the property itself is gorgeous, with many original fixtures and fittings, quite unusual.
...
a lovely homely hotel in what appears to be an artists quarter of the city surrounded by small curiosity shops up and down the narrow cobbled streets...not a McDonalds in sight!! (which of course is a beautiful thing)

Our cab from the Ostiense (sp?) train station to the hotel made a bad approach (didn't know of torn up street in vicinity) and dumped us a long block away. Wife and I struggled with our five bags to get to the hotel entrance. The receptionist there assured us she would have helped with the bags had we come to her and asked for it and based on our experience with her, I know she would have, even gladly. She was most helpful at all times.
...
We were fully satisfied. I rated room quality Very Good even though it was far from quiet. What street it central Rome is? and besides, we usually had our dood double glazed windows open, since we wanted that contact with the outside world.
...
Receptionist most helpful; held our bags after checkout while we had a final stroll to P. della Rotunda for lunch, and had the cab to airport on hand when we got back at scheduled time.
...
The bar/breakfast area was most attractive, and the gentleman who helped wait table at that early hour was a cheerful and helpful presence.
...
A perfectly satisfying tourist hotel, in near perfect central locale, from P. Replublica to Coliseum and Forum to Trevi, Pantheon, and P. Pavone. Hard to beat at the price . . . too bad about the collapse of our dollar v. the Euro, but that's not RomeBy's fault.

We had a rranged for the Hotel Car to pick us up from the airport and take us direct to the hotel. The Car more a little more expensive than a taxi but well worth the money. The driver was great and helped us with everything and pointed out sights along the way. We booked him again to take us back to the airport.
...
The hotel was perfect. It really was a traditional and full of character. The wine was plentiful and the food fantastic. The location could not have been better with tiny cobbled streets and a lot of local hustle and bustle and great for a late evening walk. It really was a five minute walk to the coluseum and had tiny little squares with fountains and cafes etc right outside. Just perfect. We would definately return there again. After walking around rome for 4 days we could not have picked a better place to stay.
...
We booked the hotel car and he actually waited for over half an hour for us to finish lunch and some wine before taking us.

The staff was very friendly. My room was ready for me when I arrived which was nice at the end of a long flight.
...
The room was very nice and always kept clean. At first the noise from the cars passing outside was a bit loud but I soon learned I could control that simply by closing the windows.
...
After my visit to Rome I went to Florence. I did not need all of my luggage in Florence so I asked if I could leave one suitcase with them until I returned 4 days later for my flight to Amsterdam. They were very kind and accommodating. I was able to leave a large suitcase in storage with them and picked it up on my return to Rome. I really appreciate them keeping my bag for a few days. It was a big help.
...
A very nice hotel. Centrally located with a bus stop only a few steps from the hotel door. A Metro stop is just a little farther down the street. Many sights of Rome and shopping areas are within walking distance or a short ride on the bus. Several good restaurants and gelato shops are in the area as well. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I would definately recommend this hotel to friends.

The friendly attitude of the staff added to the value.
...
A clean and welcoming bed and breakfast that is very convienient to many of Rome's key locations. It's location gives you a feeling of living in Rome with it's narrow streets and charm. Not a 'big' hotel atmosphere where you might lose the ambiance of being in Rome.

The only feature we could not use was the roof terrace, as this was being improved. Also, on the Sunday morning there was no hot water available. This was due to a boiler failure which was rectified the same day.
...
No problems, but we were asked for cash, although we paid the online deposit by credit card, and there were numerous credit card signs on the door and reception counters. Not a problem for us as we had plenty of time to find an ATM - might be a problem if someone was in a hurry and had insufficient cash.

Room could do with a fresh lick of paint, also cleaning of stair carpets, but not really that bad. Rooms and building were otherwise excellent.

The little electric bus which travels to most of the major sites passes the door of the hotel, very convenient!, although all the major sites were within walking distance of the hotel.
`Tavernelle' Restaurant beside the hotel is extremely good, unusual dishes, many prizes won by the owner/chef, walls full of signed photos of famous people who have eaten there, also photos of the Pope greeting the chef, good value, great athmosphere.

Upon our arrival, we were told that due to a mix-up, the hotel was overbooked, but that the matter would be resolved when we came back from lunch. Parking was more dicey than anticipated. We emailed to ask about parking and were told there was a parking garage nearby. When we tried to find the garage (with directions by the receptionist), there was no garage. However, we were able to find on-street parking a few blocks from the hotel (5 min walk), and with the parking permit they provided, this worked out fine. And it was free! Part of the adventure of Rome -- not a drawback, just a temporary stressor.

Antica Locanda's website and receptionist said the best way to get from the Termini station to Antica Locanda (which is a distance of 1.5 km) would be a cab. The cab cost 28 euros which was criminal--but we were so tired that we couldn't argue nor could we get the driver's name, etc. It was a marked white cab with a jerry-rigged meter that mis-represented the price. Antica Locanda should recommend if people are coming from Termini that they take the metro to Cavour and walk a block and DO NOT TAKE A CAB.
...
Fiammetta, the receptionist for Antica Locanda and the person whom we booked with, is great. She was very clear about what room was available (we had to take a smaller room at a lower rate for the first two nights) and she makes excellent capacinos! I would recommend Antica Locanda and enjoyed staying there. The location is excellent and the roof-top terrace is delightful. I would recommend it to others.
...
The process was easy and straightforward.
...
I think it is hard to tell from the website what a charming location Antica Locanda has--it is really convenient to walk to historical sites from there (such as the forum and the palatino) and it is really easy to take public transportation (bus, metro) from there.
...
I would describe it as a small, family run (non-chain or non-corporate) simple hotel with a great location, nice terrace, and comfortable, clean rooms. The service is professional.

My luggage did not arrive when I did in Rome; management was very helpful in making phone calls to check-up on situation. Luggage was in my room when I came back later that day.

Our hostess was very warm and friendly. Our room was clean and had everything we needed. IT was convenient for walking to the forum, Trevi fountain and other places of interest. We found the food in the adjoining restaurant delicious and the owner friendly and helpful too. We had a wonderful stay and wished we could have stayed longer. We would recommend the hotel.

I am glad we took a taxi to the hotel as we did not know the streets. The hotel was on a beautiful little street but it was one way. I am sure we would have had a difficult time locating it and finding a place to park if we had driven there. But we did not need a car. Also it was close to bus lines too.
...
We had to leave early in the morning (5:50 am) and it was easy to leave the key in the room and just leave.
Our only challenge was making sure we woke up as we had no alarm clock and we were not able to get a 'wake up call'. the receptionist said she had put one on the phone but it did not happen. I am glad we automatically woke up early or we would have missed our flight.

After reading the reviews about the rooms, breakfast, etc. I was somewhat concerned. I found the room to be fine. It is true that there is no elevator and we were on what they called the 2nd floor. It was up 4 sets of stairs - when I asked they said they count 1/2 floors. Not sure about that but it can be tough getting bags up the stairs - not bad coming down. Also true breakfast is very bad. Those things aside, it is in a great location, the rooms are clean, bathrooms are clean, we had a room on the street and there was some noise from the street but it didn't keep us up. If you go expecting a hilton you will be disappointed, if you expect a nice hostel you won't be. The rate is ok for Rome. Everything there is expensive. They do need to take credit cards - it isn't fun hanging on to that much cash until checkout. Also need internet.
